crescents of light

Posted by
Ryan (Vancouver, Canada) on 22 July 2009 in Plant & Nature.

We take a break from sports to reflect on the majesty of nature. The solar eclipse was today, about 80% coverage I believe here in Kaohsiung. The school had no idea it was happening and was unprepared for it (unlike most schools who had special glasses prepared), so we took pieces of paper and poked small holes in them to show that the light coming through the hole wasn't a circle underneath. This was enough for the kids, but what really interested me were the 'holes' created by the spaces between leaves on the tree beside us. They all turned to crescents! Very cool.
