grease pole temple

Posted by

Right by the gate from yesterday, we saw a giant building on stilts with a stairway up. The door was open, so we climbed up to find the 'temple' was painted wood. Very strange. When we asked back at the hostel about it, we were told it was an old tradition here during Ghost month (around August) to grease the poles up and have people climb them. It's apparently quite the thing. Maybe we'll make it down this year!
