a day in humahuaca

We decided to take a day's break and just breathe in the the life here in the small town of Humahuaca, the largest settlement before we hit the Bolivian border. Legend says the town gets its name from a young man who had his head chopped off by his lover's father. When it started crying after being separated from the body, the warriors cried, "Humahuaca! Humahuaca!" meaning "The head cries!"

Andean women use those brightly coloured textiles to carry almost everything around - babies, food, possibly even goats (no, just kidding on the goats). Just tie the kid in and go.
