riding the cacique down the río paraguay

Posted by

We climbed on the Cacique before dawn today to head down to Asunción the old-fashioned way. We snagged a cabin for ourselves, but most people got these hammocks or wooden seats for the trip down (almost 24 hours). It wasn't as romantic as we had hoped, as it rained almost the entire time, and we were denied guidebook promises of animals and birds everywhere, but it was still a neat way to travel.

(Cacique means chief in Guaraní)
