kids at circus school

As I mentioned yesterday, a reporter friend who was writing an article for a magazine asked me to take photos of a circus school found in a villa, or shantytown (pictures always sell the article). While not being so much of a school as an empty warehouse used for various goings-on in the community, it was a wonderful program created by a couple of teachers/performers to help these kids get a little exercise, have a little fun, and possibly even learn something to help themselves (one of the things they teach is juggling, and one can see kids juggling for money on the subway every day. The really good ones (I saw a teenager than really blew me away last month) can make some decent coin doing this.)

The kids were really great, and after an initial case of "Take a picture of me! OK, take another one of us!", they basically ignored me as I walked around the practice, snapping pictures (well, except for one little girl who would see me and run up and say quietly, "Me saca una photo") and watching them. They loved it, I loved it, and they were just so happy to be showing off. I hope they get copies of the magazine, and I for one am going to get some pictures printed and give them a CD so the teachers have some material if they need it, and the kids can have a photo of themselves if they want it.
