an orchid island greetingPosted by Ryan (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) on 10 October 2008 in Landscape & Rural. Orchid Island is a tiny little island a couple of hours off the south-east coast of Taiwan. The diving is terrific and that's why I was there - a long weekend of underwater sights. It's been a long time since I've been under the surface here and it was great to both see this beautiful island and to get in the water again. This pagoda and lighthouse (as well as the hurricane breakers, a necessary precaution out here) greet you as you get off the boat and, as you wipe the vomit from your mouth from the boat ride over, you catch first diesel fumes from the boat, then fresh island breezes. Great place.
