the torres del paine

Well, here they are. The Towers of Paine. Monstrous, unforgettable granite upthrusts formed by glacial ice at the end of the Andes. A beautiful sight, but you've going to feel some pain before seeing them.

As Christine's feet were ripped up by her boots, she wasn't able to see this magnificent sight, so I did the trek alone this morning, starting out at the break of dawn (and seeing the sun rise on them from afar - the real hard-core trekkers camp an hour away and scramble up the boulder-strewn trail in pre-dawn greyness to catch the first rays on them) and reaching them about midmorning. Takes one break away.
