scrabble can be played anywhere

Posted by Ryan (Buenos Aires, Argentina) on 25 August 2007 in People & Portraits.

I was taking pictures of graffiti in a small park when a man approached me. He asked me if I would take pictures of him and his friends and their home - the park. They were all homeless, victims of the crash of six years ago. They didn't want money, they just wanted to talk and to have a few pictures taken of them and their surroundings, which I was happy to do. Most of them were vendors of a magazine produced by the homeless here - it sells for two pesos and the vendor keeps 65% of it, encouraging them to get out and sell. They were all terrific people, some even spoke good English, allowing me to have a full conversation (my Spanish is good, but still stilted). When writing down contact information, one guy wrote SAN TELMO PEOPLE in my notebook and underlined PEOPLE. I think that it is easy to forget that sometimes, to see them as...I don't know. Something else. I was glad to have met them.
