Necklaces bearing images of religious icons are very common around religious sites here. Go figure.

There was a huge general strike here today to protest the death of a teacher in a province in the south of the country. He was killed in a protest by a police officer who fired tear gas at him point blank. It's galvanized the teachers' unions and the unions all over. There are teachers striking all over the county, trying to raise wages. That's what this was about. Teachers' wages are still only about $300-350US a month. Sometimes it feels a little crazy being here.
